Wix

We originally started with Wix because of its flexibility. We loved how we could change the layout and the theme to match anything we wanted. What we quickly realized, however, was that this format wasn’t the most stable. When we created our own template, it wouldn’t always save correctly or appear the right way depending on how we took the picture (vertically or horizontally).

There and Back Again...Wix and Tumblr

Tumblr

After much frustration, we did some research and found that Humans of New Yorkwas made with a tumblr account made for blogging. We decided to go with the tumblr account and this time the layout had a nice collage look that accommodated any pictures we took. Our goal throughout was to get a really clean cut look for the website to focus on the content and not any bells and whistles. The tumblr did this, but we soon had another problem. Tumblr, as a blogging site, had very limited capabilities for creating other pages and areas for us to develop it like a website. While Ann Arbor Awesome was based on a picture blog, we wanted to include our own reflections on the project, and to share what we learned throughout the process. We were having a lot of difficulty manipulating the layout and code behind the scenes to get multiple pages in a website effect.

Wix Again

As I was working with my own eportfolio, I chanced on the option to add a gallery in Wix. The layout was beautiful. Our quotes could be seen. It automatically adjusted for vertical and horizontal pictures. I was in love. I showed Emily, she fell in love. After weeks of trial and error, we had found our platform.
